Lent is a priviledged time, by which the Church leads us toward Him who is the fount of hope and mercy. It is a pilfrimage in which He Himself accompanies us through the desert of our poverty, sustaining us on the path towards the great joy of Easter. But this path is not without temptation. It is for this reason that this First Sunday of Lent, the liturgy makes us meditate on the temptations faced by Jesus in the desert.
In our tradition, in the first Sunday of Lent, there simple rite or celebration of the distribution of Lenten Book to each member in the community as mentioned in the Rule of St. Benedict Chapter 48: 15-16. This book has to be read from the beginning straight through to the end.Â
What is important to remember is that our perseverance in this Lenten Reading (Lectio) is fundamental and there will be temptations, that we have to respond strongly with our perseverance and zeal.
Every path of conversion begins when we allow ourselves to be reached by the Word of God and welcome it with docility of spirit. The Word of God as living speech that builds communion, nourishes faith, and invite and support our mission as Christian (Pope Leo XIV on the Word of God).
