In the heart of the liturgical year, the Church pauses in adoration:
Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, that brings us back to the essential, to the source and summit of all Christian life. We do not celebrate an idea, but a Presence: Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist, the sublime gift of his immeasurable love.
Pope Benedict XVI, in his Apostolic Exhortation “Sacramentum Caritatis” has given us a masterly synthesis of the Church’s Eucharistic faith.
He writes:
“In the sacrament of the Eucharist, Jesus shows us in particular the truth of love, which is the very essence of God”.
The Eucharist is therefore the Sacrament of Charity, because in it, Christ not only loves us, but makes us participants in his own love. The Eucharist, is fundamentally an act of thanksgiving. Through this great gift, we express our gratitude to God for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, specifically through his sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection.
Let us give thanks to God!
