Today the Gospel says to us: “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions". And at the end of this quotation: “... God said to him, ”You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong? Thus, will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God."
Jesus is not opposed to being prosperous, if there is no inequality,
but he suggests that true and enduring wealth lies elsewhere.
To become rich in what matters for of God means
not to fall into the temptation of anxiety if as everything depends on us.
To become rich in front of God means
to subordinate all – work, goods, and life - to God’s Kingdom,
not to my plan and ideas.
To become rich in what matters for of God means
“to give alms,” be generous, attentive to others and their needs,
put others in front of you.
The what matters for of God become be “for the others”.
Charity, fraternity and love are values that never fail.
