Humble yourself, find favor with God.
The theme of humility recommended in today’s reading whether from Sir.3:17-20,28-29 and the Gospel should not be taken as a simply a recommendation of worldly presence, but as a part of the proper conduct of a just man before God.
For us Christian, humility has acquired a new and priceless dimension ever since Jesus exemplified this virtue in his life.
“Every one who exalts himself will be humbled,
and he who humbled himself will be exalted.”
This humility proper to a wise man and indeed, to anyone who sees reality as it is.
Humility requires precisely that each person keep his proper place and to readjust them through a continual honest examination of conscience.
The Church today is increasingly aware that authority is for service and this is one necessary form of humility. We could even witness it in the example of our Pope Leo XIV through his conduct and behavior. (The Liturgical Year, by Adrian Nocent OSB)
