"The Power of Christ"

The Gospel proposed today in the Liturgy of the Mass, drawing our attention to Christ who manifests his power by walking on the waters and extending his hand to Peter, who is afraid of the storm.

However, before talking about the power with which Christ manifests his being God, we can pay attention to two facts that frame today’s Gospel: the solitary prayer of Jesus and the little faith of Peter.

In his very intense life, Jesus always finds time for prayer. The Son of God made man, prays in solitude. He prays at the time of important events: for his baptism on the Jordan river, before choosing the twelve Apostles, at the transfiguration on the Mount Tabor, before teaching to pray, in the garden of Gethsemane, and on the cross. He prays for his executioners, for Peter, for his disciples, and those who follow them. He prays also for himself (Mt 26, 39; 17.1 to 5; Heb 5: 7). He teaches us how to pray. He is also promises to continue to intercede for us in his glory.

Jesus reveals a permanent relationship with the Father certain that he never leaves him alone and always hears him. A filial prayer, the filial obedience to the Father and A filial humility.
